Treavor: What led you to choose the name Jody 6?


Jody 6: My real name is Jody, and I had the amazing experience of living in Japan! My last name sounds just like the Japanese word for the number '6', which inspired me to take on the artist name 'Jody 6'.

Treavor: What inspired you to become a DJ, and how long have you been in the field?


Jody 6: My DJ journey kicked off in the vibrant city of Tokyo! I explored countless clubs, soaking in the electrifying atmosphere. Along the way, I made amazing friends and connected with club promoters and fellow DJs, which ultimately led to my exhilarating first set!


Treavor: How do you get ready for a big set?


Jody 6: I consistently play my own tracks in my sets and create music every night. I have a passion for Techno, and when I discover a great tune, I add it to my collection of favorites. I'm always prepared for any set, big or small, anytime, anywhere!


Treavor: As a DJ, what has been your standout moment so far, whether it's meeting an idol or performing at a dream party?


Jody 6: I create music to make ravers live in the moment and experience pure euphoria! It's incredibly exciting to see other DJs spin my tracks and watch the crowd go wild. Some of the highlights for me have been when amazing DJs like Lilly Palmer, Amelie Lens, Space 92, Joyhauser, T78, Marie Vaunt, Deborah de Luca, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Karla Blum, Maddix, and HI-LO have played my music. It's utterly thrilling!


Treavor: Let's discuss production. You've been consistently releasing new music, and the world is clearly responding positively. What led you to start producing, and how long have you been in this field?


Jody 6: Before I began DJing, I delved into production. I was determined to create the ethereal sounds I experienced at raves. I mastered this craft through YouTube, music magazines, and insightful conversations with fellow producers.


Treaovr: I absolutely love Techno Is My Drug and the addition of the Hoover stabs is fantastic. How much does hard house influence you? Can you share your creative process for this track?


Jody 6: I started my journey with Hard House, moved on to Uplifting Trance, and now create Peak Time Techno. The music I produce today is a seamless continuation of my entire musical evolution. My Techno is heavily influenced by my passion for Hard House, evident in the hoovers, and the euphoric essence of Uplifting Trance.


Treavor: One of your most recent releases, "Run The Rhythm" with Lisa May, is fantastic. How did you and Lisa May collaborate on this project? Do you have a specific formula for working with other artists?


Jody 6: Lisa and I connected at a rave called BRLN where we were both performing in Brisbane, Australia. We hit it off and decided to collaborate. We're thrilled to announce that our collaboration is now out on Codex Recordings.


Treavor: Delta is another outstanding track, featuring crisp clarity and vocals that truly drive the piece. Can you share your process when working with vocals?


Jody 6: The majority of my tunes feature a vocal component. I enjoy working with short, catchy vocals because they make a track unforgettable. Every day, I actively seek out and consider outstanding vocals. I source them from a variety of places, including real singers, AI-generated content, YouTube, and sample sites.


Treavor: What is your signature sound or style?


Jody 6: Dark yet uplifting, edgy, driving, euphoric Techno!


Treavor: What is your most significant career highlight?


Jody 6: Sure, I could talk about the amazing artists who play my music or the incredible events I've performed at. But honestly, the real highlight for me is internal. It's the pure joy and excitement I still feel in the creative process of making music. That passion and thrill are just as vibrant today as they were when I first started!


Treavor: What advice do you have for aspiring DJs and producers?


Jody 6: Stay true to yourself and savor every moment of the journey! Otherwise, what's the point of all this effort?


Treavor: What’s your take on the current state of electronic music?


Jody 6: I love how Techno has become such an open genre today. It allows me complete freedom in sound design, genre, and arrangement to create exactly what I want.


Treavor: What’s next for you?


Jody 6: I'm thrilled to announce upcoming events in Auckland, New Zealand; Sydney, Australia; San Francisco, USA; and Amsterdam, the Netherlands! I have an impressive lineup of releases on Joyhauser’s Memoro Records, Pablo Say’s Say Musick, and Sisko Electrofanatik’s Gain Records, among others.
